Although schools are not required to spend the identical amount of money on boys’ and girls’ programs, they must provide equal treatment and benefits. Some inequalities between teams may be acceptable if they are compensated for elsewhere. For example, so long as the school provides uniforms of similar quality and quantity for both the boys’ football team and the girls’ volleyball team, it is not a violation simply because the boys’ uniforms are more expensive. To find out whether your school treats girls fairly, the following factors must be examined:
- Equipment and Supplies
- Locker Rooms, Practice and Competitive Facilities
- Scheduling of Games and Practice Times
- Coaching
- Travel and Related Expenses
- Publicity
- Access to Tutoring
- Medical and Training Services and Facilities
- Housing and Dining Services and Facilities
- Recruitment of Student Athletes
- Support Services
